From 18 November 2025, new identity verification rules come into force at Companies House. This is part of the government’s drive to tackle fraud and improve transparency in UK business.
The key change is simple: directors and people with significant control (PSCs) will need to have their identity verified.
- New directors must be verified before they can be appointed.
- Existing directors and PSCs must be verified around the time of their next confirmation statement, with a 12-month transition period.
- Without verification, appointments and filings may be blocked.
Why This Matters
These changes will affect every UK company. They mean:
- No one can become a director without passing identity checks.
- Companies will need to plan ahead so filings are not delayed.
- Fraudsters will find it harder to hide behind fake details.
How to Verify
There are two routes to complete verification:
1. Direct with Companies House
- Done online through GOV.UK One Login.
- Upload a photo ID (passport, driving licence) and take a live photo or video.
2. Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)
- An ACSP (like us) is registered and supervised to handle the process on your behalf.
- We check your ID, keep the records, and confirm your verification with Companies House.
- For more complex verification needs—such as overseas directors, multiple PSCs, or non-standard documents—an ACSP can provide a smoother route.
How to Prepare
Companies and individuals should start now:
- Know your deadline – check when your next confirmation statement is due.
- Get documents ready – passport, driving licence or similar photo ID.
- Choose your route – Companies House direct, or via an ACSP.
